As I wandered Placing foot after foot On the compacted soil Bush sounds surrounded me All the shades of green Puncuating the brown barks I remembered As my feet Dipped beneath the surface Refreshingly cool water Consuming my body Angled boulders encasing A sky of grey poking through Canopy leaves I remembered I remembered That I am a part How my breath Flows through the air To the next living being Water sliding over my legs Underneath a waterfall One day ends up at the sea
I remembered How I am connected To so much that I don't acknowledge How the mammals in the bush Know I'm there And the birds Announce my presence I remembered That we are all one Although it seems we are many If I am remembering Must I also have forgotten? Why must I continually remember My essence My interconnectedness Is it not an innate part of me? Why do I forget? Living beneath Solid protective walls That separate Captivated by screens And the next imminent tasks Each time I immerse myself In an alive forest A mountain stream Or in bubbling waves I remember But must I continue to forget?
